Backseat Virgins Interview Nov. 07
The Rude Review

1. Okay, for those of us who are not familiar with the Backseat Virgins can you introduce yourselves and give a little background?
RANDY: "Rapid Randy, guitar/vocals. Pizza Delivery expert."
NEETA:"Hi, I'm Neeta. I sing and play beginner keyboard. My day job is saving the planet. Aside from the band, I enjoy short walks through scary alleys."
NEESIE: "I caught a BSV show last year Sakura sushi while in Birmingham for the weekend and loved Randy & Neeta's vibe & sound. Later when I moved from
Memphis TN I was looking for a band to join and caught a BSV practice and they were looking for a bass
player/guitarist so after I auditioned on bass, Rapid Randy moved to guitar."
MIKE: "El Gauto. I tear up drum sets and shit ice cream."

2. The band has a great record ??Born Again?? under their belt and a new record written. What??s stopping the Backseat Virgins from taking over the world?
NEETA: "I suppose the only obstacle in our path is getting fans. Hopefully this interview will aid our world domination."
NEESIE: "so far we've been lucky to resolve any potential band conflicts through wrestling and intimidation."
RANDY: "I'm happy that people enjoy it and get what we are doing. Not looking to take over the world. Just wanna make fun music and friends
along the way."
MIKE: "The same thing that stops every other band. No fucking money. Hope we'll fix that issue soon."

3. Randy??you??ve been around the block in this punk scene; playing in bands, promoting shows, etc. How did you settle in to writing Power Pop tunes & The
BSV??s?
RANDY "Hearing shitty music on the radio, clubs, and in friend's car stereos."

4. The band always seems to be having a great time on stage. Has the ??chemistry?? always been there for the band or did it take time to develop?
RANDY: "The fun was there from the start. We all have a good time whether it be in front of huge crowd or 5 people who happened to stumble into the venue
that night."
NEETA: "We were all attracted to each other right from the start."
NEESIE: "we're all good friends outside the band and also share a fondness for beer so playing live is always a lot of fun."

5. Who write??s the songs?
NEETA: "Born Again" is mostly Randy's doing, except for 'All Day Long', which I wrote one morning when I was partially insane. Our upcoming album will be
more of a collaboration as far as song-writing goes."
RANDY: Yea, what Neeta said, but goddamn if she doesn't have some suprises for you fuckers on the next couple of albums.

6. Where did you draw the inspiration from for the ??Born Again?? record?
RANDY: "The lack of good new music. Until recently I've had to listen to albums at least 10 years old to give me a thrill. I took inspiration from girls,
my life, and the bands I love."

7. Let??s talk about Home Field Advantage. How are your local shows different from the Out-of-state shows? Does the band find new fans wherever they play?
RANDY: "Our local shows are a lot of fun especially since we get to hang out with our good friends in the process. Shows out of state are fun too because
we have met a lot of great people who eventually went on to become very close friends of ours.
NEESIE: "it's often a pleasant surprise when we play out of town shows, with pop punk kids from all over coming out to check out the music. Some of my
favorite gigs have been at all ages venues like CD Cellar in Anniston, AL and The Venue in Dalton, GA."

8. So, I??ve heard there??s an upcoming week (in early ??08) on the road with a pretty notable band in the Virgins future. Care to dispel rumors?
RANDY: "Check our upcoming shows link on myspace to dispel those rumors."

9. Randy-You??ve had a pretty longstanding relationship with Joe Queer. Anything our readers may find interesting?
RANDY: "Ask me this question again after the tour and I'm sure I'll have plenty of wild stories to tell."

10. A lot of great things happened to the Backseat Virgins this year-New Record, 2 shows at Insub. Fest and a bunch of groovy live shows. If the sky??s the
limit where??s the band headed?
NEETA: "The moon!"

11. Relationships are very important in this industry and you guys seem to know everybody. Are there any collaboration in the future?
RANDY: "Dave Parasite and I collaborated on our song "One Night" and I wouldn't mind doing that again. I'd also like to collaborate more with some of the
great songwriters in the genre that I've met recently. Pat Termite and I have become close friends and we share many musical tastes so might do something
in the future together. Also, Our next album will be a 3 way split with the Leftovers and the Guts on Insubordination Records.

12. I was lucky enough to catch both of your sets at Insub. Records Fest this year. Saturday??s performance outshined Thursday by a mile. What were each of
you thinking when you played to that crowd on Saturday?
RANDY: "Ten Years ago listening to records by Beatnik Termites, Screeching Weasel, and the Parasites, I never thought that one day I'd be sharing the
stage with them at a sold out festival. It was one of the best weekends of my life."
NEETA: "Actually, I was thinking that we did way better on Thursday. And I was kind of trying not to think at all so I wouldn't forget the words. I was
also worried that the photographer was going to catch me at a bad angle!"
MIKE: That Thursday's preformance was a hell of alot better than Saturday's. Got a kick out of all the evil looks we got when they saw a keyboard on stage.
Un-punk rock, I guess."
NEESIE: "I had a few beers before we went on even though it was early in the day. Playing to the Insubordination Fest crowd was a dream come true."

13. Last, here??s a chance to say anything you want. Right a wrong, vent, bitch, hypothesize, grovel, shamelessly promote??anything you like.
RANDY: "Ryan Rude knows his shit and you should always check his website for the scoop on great new music.
NEETA: "Ryan Rude is the coolest dude!"
MIKE: "Rubbish, dear boy. Rubbish."
