Hooligan
Theses days the term pop-punk tends to make a lot of folks cringe. I insist that this is primarily due to way too many bands ALL or Big Drill Car. It's essentially pop music twice removed from the original source. It's watered down, spineless and above all, boring as hell. Sadly this is a norm for pop-punk. The Beatnik Termites sure as hell don't fit this norm. In fact I'm not sure how in touch with reality they are at all. They're from Cleveland and without knowing that I might imagine them to be a British pop band circa the early 60's who were transplanted to a sunny California surfing community. Like I said, I'm not sure if they've got a firm grasp on reality. One thing I do know is that they do have a firm grasp on the whole Brit pop thing, they come off sounding closer to Herman's Hermits or the Hollies than say ALL or Big Drill Car. Catchy Harmonies? infectious tunes and some serious fun. You know I could see them playing at the sock hop in Grease rather than Sha-na-na; a welcome change of pace.
