Being a fan of Screeching Weasel, I was very shocked to hear John Pierson's band, Even in Blackouts, because to be blunt, it's nothing like Screeching Weasel. This acoustic punk rock band fronted by Lizzie Eldredge has a Dance Hall Crashers feel to it, minus the ska horns. With emotional and poetic lyrics and catchy melodies, sophomore album Zeitgeist's Echo has definitely surpassed the stereotypical sophomore slump. Their acoustic sound does not get too folky (although "Darling You" comes pretty close) or too emo, but manages to maintain a balance of acoustic punk rock. You will no doubt be singing along to the classic acoustic cover of "One Fine Day." Their little interludes with talking and musical sounds add spunk to Zeitgeist's Echo. So Screeching Weasel fans beware, Even In Blackouts may be completely different than you expect, but they're definitely worth a listen.
